Quarterback Matt Leinart spent his first practice with the Texans watching and learning at the Methodist Training Center. Leinart, who will wear No. 9, played catch with receivers to warm up before practice and threw a few passes with the scout team. Mostly, he watched Matt Schaub and Dan Orlovsky do 99 percent of the work. Leinart signed a one-year contract for a base salary of $630,000. Coach Gary Kubiak reiterated after practice how excited he is to work with Leinart, who'll compete with Orlovsky for the backup job. Source: Houston Chronicle
