Houston Texans receiver and kick returner Jerome Mathis received a misdemeanor citation after his pit bull chewed through a fence and behaved aggressively. Brazoria County sheriff's department Capt. Chris Kincheloe said Wednesday that Mathis was cited for allowing a dog to roam, a misdemeanor that carries a fine of up to $500. Deputies responded to a call Saturday from an apartment complex manager who reported an aggressive dog was loose on the property near the suburb of Manvel. When the officer arrived the dog was lurking near a women who was walking her dogs, Kincheloe said. After unsuccessfully trying to subdue the dog with pepper spray, the officer shot at but did not hit the dog, which ran away. Animal control officers captured the dog and returned it to Mathis. Three puppies, who were not aggressive, were found and returned. "He apologized," Kincheloe said of Mathis. "It was an accident. He didn't mean for this to happen." Mathis, who is on the injured reserve, made the Pro Bowl at kick returner as a rookie in 2005. "We're aware of the incident involving Jerome and we're going to do our best in helping him resolve it," Texans spokesman Tony Wyllie said. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-mathis-dogs&prov=ap&type=lgns
What's the obsession with pit bulls? 90% of these things are bred for dog fighting, and people expect them to be good pets? Kill em all. Humanely, though. :icon_rolleyes:
