Houston Texans offensive tackle Eric Winston announced on Twitter that the team has released him. "Unfortunately I have bad news. The Texans have decided to release me today," Winston wrote. "Although it is a surprise, I have nothing but positive memories and great relationships that I have built over the years. While my future seems uncertain, I am confident I will land on my feet. "Let me say thank you to Mr. McNair and the whole Texan organization. They have had big role in the player and person I have become. "And last but not least to my fans and teammates. You guys are the absolute best! I will miss all of you more than you know." A third-round pick out of Miami in 2006, Winston has started 87 of 92 games during his NFL career. Winston's current 87-game starting streak is the fourth-longest among NFL offensive tackles. Winston had two years and $11 million remaining on his contract, which included base salaries of $5.5 million in each of the next two seasons. Releasing Winston clears $4.5 million of cap space for the Texans. Source: Mac's Football Blog
I enjoy seeing the OL pool grow. Browns probably need to pick up two new starters on the line this offseason. How would this guy do on the right side?
I don't even know who those tackles are and it's not like Winston has been playing poorly on the right side. Cap space casualty.
