The Texans are releasing free safety Ed Reed today. Reed was demoted and replaced by Shiloh Keo in the last two losses to Indianapolis and Arizona. Source: UltimateTexans Walnuts's Take: Well I can't say this is surprising. Couldnt stay healthy and got demoted once he was. Too bad to see one of the all-time greats at the position go out like this.
Re: Ed Reed to be released well, he raped the texans for $6 mill before he rode off into the sunset. kudos to him i suppose.
Re: Ed Reed to be released $5M for 5 starts. Not a bad pay day. Ravens reportedly NOT putting in a waiver claim...
Re: Ed Reed to be released since they released him, the texans will have to pay him the rest of his 2013 salary, unless someone picks him up, so they will probably end up paying him $6 mill for his limited contributions this season unless someone picks him up, which will surprise me.
Re: Ed Reed to be released I read that he really only earned $1.76M of the $2M. So it's in between $5-$6M. Any team that would claim him would be on the hook for about $412,000 for the remainder of the season. Regardless...16 tackles and no interceptions in 7 games (5 started.). Crazy.
i'd be surprised if nobody claimed him given it's only 412k. it's worth a shot. maybe he just wasn't good for their system, doesn't mean he couldn't be slightly valuable elsewhere. he obviously isn't the same player but i do think there's some value there. i do think there'd be value there in a dallas locker room where we have such a ridiculously young secondary and especially safety corp.
Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas said this morning that the Cowboys are not interested in him because they don't think he can play anymore. If you go to PFF, they have him quite low among the NFL players at that position. Michael Huff is another story. The Cowboys have, or are going to bring him in for a workout.
