The Houston Texans have signed veteran linebacker Barrett Ruud in the wake of a season-ending injury to linebacker Brian Cushing.

Cushing tore his ACL in the victory against the New York Jets on Monday night and was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday. To fill his spot on the roster, the Texans signed Ruud, who was released by the New Orleans Saints on Monday.

Ruud had seen limited action with New Orleans this season, but the eight-year veteran has amassed 642 tackles, six forced fumbles and seven interceptions over the course of his career.

He wasn't until Monday. He was on Saints' roster until then.

Why the hell did they release him? As he been injured/playing poorly? I expected this guy to flourish after leaving Tampa.
