Texans To Retain Coach Gary Kubiak In 2011 If Defensive Staff Is Fired

Discussion in 'Houston Texans' started by BigBlueBruiser, Dec 29, 2010.

  1. After the Texans blew the Denver game 24-23, Jon McClain of the Houston Chronicle didn't see how owner Bob McNair could bring back coach Gary Kubiak for a sixth season. McClain is now hearing McNair will keep Kubiak but will insist that he hire a new defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. That means Frank Bush and David Gibbs will be gone. McNair could demand more changes. The Texans could finish 5-11, their worst record since 2005, which was Dom Capers' last season.

  2. That's exactly what I mentioned in the GM thread......he needs to get an experienced defensive coordinator.

Have you not watched this team in the last two years? They dominate in the first 20 mins then they get predictable on both sides of the ball and throw leads away. This is a talented team, and there is no way that in the last two years a record of 14-17 is acceptable.

Kubiak hasn't got what it takes IMO.

  4. I'm not defending Kubiak entirely....in fact.....I wouldn't blame McNair at the least if he decided to fire him.

But he does have a great offensive mind....which is probably the best reason to keep him. If the Texans can get someone as knowledgeable on the defensive side of the ball.....they could finally get into the playoffs.

He'll be given one last chance and he definitely needs to fire Frank Bush and hire an established DC.

If I were Kubiak.....I make a serious run at John Fox. He was the Giants' DC when the they reached Super Bowl 35 and also made another as a head coach with the Panthers.

Kubiak's offense is really fun to watch and have on your team.
But How can your D continually be the worst D this season, D-cord. has no clue,
the GM Rick Smith could not make any adjustments that helped and he had all season to figure something out.

I'm in favor of keeping Kubiak another year but FIRE BUSH, GIBBS, AND RICK SMITH.
give Kubiak a proven D-cordinator and GM and lets see what happens.

wow. i need a brakos facepalm for this decision.............

  7. grab John Fox or Wade Phillips.

Phillips makes all the sense in the world as he and Kubiak have experience together.

Not good enough, all of them have to go.

Amen. everyone, except apparently kubiak, knows that they need new defensive coaches but I have a real problem with the owner having to TELL the head coach how to assemble his staff. It really brings a lot of questions about Kubiak's decision-making abilities.

I get the feeling that if they keep Kubiak he is going to keep bringing in guys he use to work with in Denver like he has in the past instead of getting people that can actually do the job.
