Despite his health issues, Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said Thursday that he “should be considered†for head coaching jobs in the future. Phillips was fired as the Cowboys coach midway through the 2010 season. Houston’s defense has made a remarkable turnaround in his first season as coordinator, improving from 30th in 2010 to second overall this year. Phillips says he’s not looking to be a head coach again, though he believes his record (82-59) would make him a viable candidate. “I don’t like to toot my own horn,†he said. “I’ve got a good record. I think I should be considered. I guess people may have taken it the wrong way that I ought to be a head coach. I don’t believe that. I think I should be considered. If you look at my record, and you can look at all the people they’re talking about now, and my record is better than most everyone they’re talking about, as a head coach.†He’s content to stay where he is now, though he’ll listen to anyone who’d approach him about a head job. “If you want a winner, if you want experience, you know, I’d like to talk about it,†he said, “but this is the best job I’ve had. It couldn’t be a better job than this, right now and if we keep going the way I think we’re going to go, and we’re going to be good for a long time, especially defensively I think. So, you know, I’m not looking to go anywhere.â€

I would think a statement like that would make the Texans not want him back next season

He's not the worst, but he is only going to do so much.

Wade is a guy that will get you to 10-6 and a wildcard birth

So long as it isn't my team, I agree.

Just means one less team I can scratch off possible playoff threats.

after the cowboys fired him there was an article of wade saying hes come to the realization this is it for him being a HC.

he turned an abysmal houston defense into a top 5 without mario williams...stick to what you are good at, youll get more respect for it

Him and Lebeau end the convo for the best 3-4 guys in the game

Capers is good, but not on there level IMO

BB should be on that list with his reputation but his defenses lately have been so bad. I don't know how he still has a reputation as a "defensive guru." Wade is a fantastic DC. He should be happy being a monster at that instead of a mediocre head coach.

He would definatly be in the convo, but Im not counting guys like him who will never hold an assistant coach position again

Maybe I should say best 3-4 assiatants
