Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing and defensive end Antonio Smith got into a scrap with each other on the field against the Tennessee Titans. What started the exchange where Cushing's helmet was ripped off and Cushing was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for his helmet coming off? Smith told the Houston Chronicle that he got into an argument with Titans guard Leroy Harris. Then, Cushing intervened because he didn't want Smith to get a penalty. "The guy tried to cut me after the play, probably like 15 yards from the ball," Smith said. "I jumped over. He almost caught my knee. I went back to him, and we collided and traded words. Then Cush came in and tried to discipline me, and it just got out of hand. I can't remember what he said, but he grabbed me and head-butted me. It was a heat-of-the-moment thing. " I grabbed his facemask to pull him close to me so we could get eye-to-eye to say what I had to say, but then teammates came between us, and the helmet comes off, and it looks like a big ordeal. It's not a big deal to the point where something is wrong between me and Cushing." Cushing said that the referees didn't listen to his explanation. "I don't think the refs understood what had happened," Cushing said. "I saw him in a scuffle, and I ran over to try to help him avoid a situation that would cause a penalty, and unfortunately, it turned into something else. We're both very competitive guys that want to win. We talked it over in the third quarter and moved on." Source: National Football Post
