so what happens from here ? does omar actually get a an extention ? does manuel come back as manager ? will the mets pay to get sabbathia ? will wagner come back ?
The Mets were left for dead this season in mid june until they fired Willie Randolph. Then things took off from there and the Mets actually made something out of this season for themselves. I wouldn't be shocked to see their GM get a contract extension. As for Jerry Manuel, from what i've been hearing on ESPN, all signs point to Jerry Manuel being back next season. Now as for CC Sabbathia... I wouldn't be shocked to see the teams with the huge pay rolls interested in Sabbathia. Teams like the Yankees, Mets, & Red Sox.
IMO minaya should be canned. two straight years he let the trade deadline go by without doing anything to address the team's needs. i would be cautious signing sabbathia. he is going to want 6-7years and he may not make it through two years of that deal.
Yeah finally , we have a Mets THREAD :icon_eek: :icon_cheesygrin:^^ Manuel should stay , they need beside Johan another tough pitcher, CC come to NYC :icon_lol: No comment for the bullpen ..... What will happen with some players ? Trades ?
Omar Minaya just got off the phone with Mike Francesa on WFAN. Click the link then click on Omar's name on the left to hear what the Met's GM had to say today. Source: WFAN, NY
Omar will get the extension. I don't know if he should or not, but I know he shouldn't be canned for not making a move at the deadline. The Mets' farm system was depleted beyond the point of any other major league team's. Not to mention all the teams who had relievers on the market were asking for way too much (except for maybe Washington who gave Rauch away at a reasonable price). Besides, they already learned before the season that one player doesn't make the difference between missing the playoffs and winning a championship. If Johan didn't put you over the hump, why trade away whatever future you have for a reliever who will pitch 50 innings the rest of the season? I expect Manuel to be back. I think he kept the players pretty loose until they once again tightened up at the end. He's got a personality and fire that Randolph didn't have. Bobby Valentine may be an option that would interest the Mets, but I think they'll stick with Jerry and let Bobby V go to Seattle. I don't think they will go after Sabathia. Not with Johan at the top of the rotation and Pelfrey emerging as a #2 or 3 starter. Their sights will be set on bullpen help and possibly a replacement such as Derek Lowe if they let Perez walk (which I don't think they will). I do completely expect them to go after and sign K-Rod, though.
sorry burnout, there is no excuse for not making some kind of trade deadline move. nothing earth shaking where they would have to trade everything away but something that bettered the team. even if they didn't who assembled this overrated choke machine ? who traded the farm for what is on the roster now ? who thought wagner was answer ? who gave out the giant contracts and got no return on them. personally i hope they do re-sign omar, i think he's done an outstanding job to date.
