The Shohei Ohtani deal

So over the weekend Shohei Ohtani signed a 10-year 700 million deal with the Dodgers which looked insane enough as it sounds, until yesterday when it was revealed that Ohtani (or should we call him "Shohei Bonilla" now?) will only get paid 2 million a year during the whole contract with the rest referrerd to 2034...as a retirement plan, so to speak.

My only issue with that is that it's interest free, which is a ton of relief for the Dodgers. 680 million in 2034 will be worth way less than is is now. Other than that, this is a genius move by both the Dodgers and Ohtani. For the Dodgers, well, the obvious reasons, and for Ohtani, who is making about 30 million per year for endorsments alone, too. Once he starts collecting that 680 million in the next decade, he might be out of California and save himself their huge income tax.

On the sports side, the Dodgers are insanely loaded now, but will remain cursed and will keep losing in the playoffs every year after winning 110 games. I wonder who they pissed off.

I really hate this deal. I hate him being on the Dodgers to begin with, but this structure makes it so much worse. Originally I thought they would be strapping themselves payrollwise in the future. They should be good for a long time. Ugh!

He still will count like 47 million against the luxury tax, but I see your point. Now there are rumors that they're adding more star power like Team Mexico's star Randy Arozarena who had been rumored to be heading to Seattle but apparently we'll get out-bid again...

The rich keep getting richer. Roki Sasaki, the japanese phenom has chosen the Dodgers. Just give them the trophy already.
