Actually, this is one of the few ridiculously large baseball contracts that the player may live up to. Cabrera is the best player in the game and i don't see that ending anytime soon. He's right in his prime.

whatever jackass that was filling in for dan patrick yesterday was calling the tigers idiots for signing this contract now. said Cabrera wasnt a free agent until the end of next season, so they had plenty of time to see if he was going to put up these numbers again over two years.

Good on Miggy for getting paid, you cant hate on that.

Saw the Tiger's GM at a presser and while he stated the same thing as the dude filling in for Patrick (not a FA until the end of next year) as an organization they weren't going to take the risk of letting Cabrera get a taste of free agency and remotely risk losing him.

He's not the best player in the game, but regardless, there's no chance in hell he could ever live up to it even if he was. He's 30 years old. 30 isn't as bad in baseball as it is in football, but it's still 30 and he will start to decline well before the contract is even close to being up. There's no humanly possible way he will still be the same player in 5 years that he has been the last couple, they gave him that ridiculous money for the player he is now, and by the time the thing is up, when he's 40, they are going to be paying 30 million for a fraction of the play they are getting from him now. That's not living up to a contract. Pujols was only a year older than Miggy when he got his Angels contract, he was still one of the greatest hitters most of us will ever see, right up there with Cabrera...and look what happened there. Miggy will probably make a few good years of it, but eventually he will end up like that. Before he's 40.

That being said, good freaking on ya Miggy, congratulations. One of my favorite rival players, always fun to watch. Was also present for one of my very favorite moments as a fan.

Agree, the Tiger's will be getting their greatest value (and best possible shots at at a World Series) from Cabrera probably from the first 5-6 years and then Mother Nature will do her thing. Unlike A-Rod, my gut feeling is that Cabrera will still produce at a high level in his late 30's, but hard to see it being at the level we're seeing now. As a caveat I do wonder if the Tigers would have ponied up this kind of money if they didn't have the pitching staff and surrounding cast they do. The name of the game is to win a World Series and with Cabrera, but no Scherzer, Verlander & Co., don't really see the Tigers having the firepower. Who knows?

And the topic of another debate is whether Cabrera is the best player of all in MLB. I think not, but that's just my opinion.

Last...good for you Cabrera. I just hope that in the future the stories don't surface about being a drug user, pedophile, exhibitionist, whale killer, part-owner of a dog fighting ring, or anything else to muddy the waters. It certainly would be a first and very refreshing.

can't compare pujols and miggy. pujols was already on a very obvious slide prior to his stupid contract and many of us knew it when it happened. cabrera is still playing at an extremely high level and is still the best player in the game. Obviously, i don't anticipate he will be playing at this same ridiculous level when he's 35 but the Tigers will get their money's worth on the front end of this contract.

It's obvious that Trout is the best player in the game. He's a 5 too star who just got his own big ass deal. Cabrera is the best hitter in the game. Too bad he isn't on the Cubs lol.

Is it bad that I'm hoping for a positive test now? Just for my own sadistic sense of humor.
