Saints owner Tom Benson rebuffed all offers to sell his franchise after Hurricane Katrina. When the team was relocated to San Antonio for that one lost season under Jim Haslett, he never once considered staying in Texas and not returning to New Orleans. “Benson is a businessman looking to make money like everyone else,â€￾ said John Mehrtens, 63, a mechanic and Saints season-ticket holder since 1978. “He didn't know after Katrina what the fan base would be. I can understand him trying to move to a viable location. But he gave New Orleans a chance, and New Orleans backed him up. Some still hold a grudge, but most people in New Orleans forgive.â€￾
