Tony Casillas, a defensive lineman with the Cowboys from 1991-1993 and 1996 and 1997, joined New School on 105.3 FM The Fan on Tuesday to talk about the NBA's Jason Collins coming out as gay. Here are some highlights from the interview:

On playing with a gay player when he was on the Cowboys:

“I know that I played with homosexual players and I knew this when I was playing. There’s a certain amount of intimacy in the locker room, I’m not talking in a personal way, but intimacy as far as working hard and being that close together, as far as accomplishing something on the football field. The problem is this society. That’s why I applaud Jason Collins for coming out. Being a professional athlete people expect you have this shield around you where you can’t pretty much show your true nature, if you will, and you’re feelings and I think for him to be able to do that — I think there may be a domino effect with this. … There’s a stat that shows one out of so many guys are homosexual, I had no problem with that because I knew that. I knew lining up next to the guy. We all have questions, but to me that didn’t matter because the common goal was how we performed. It didn’t matter. Another thing, it’s like if you’re black and I’m Hispanic, it’s OK to go in the locker room and make fun of a guy if he’s Hispanic but if he’s a homosexual you just don’t go there.â€

On why guys he played with who were gay and teammates knew didn’t come out:

“We’re supposed to be immune to all the outside things that happen as far as emotions. And I really feel sorry for the guys that I played with that had to keep this under wraps and felt like they couldn’t expose their sexuality. Those are the guys I feel sorry for because, to me, if it’s OK with the people you work with or the people that you love that’s the only people that you really care about. … Let’s a front line player, like someone that is a franchise player comes out and says he’s gay. Is that really going to affect his ability to throw passes? In all actuality it might help him because it’s a weight that’s lifted off his shoulders.

On whether he thought teammates he knew were gay were affected on the field due to having to hide their sexuality:

“I didn’t even think about that. I’d be more prone to the guy getting old and losing a step or not preparing for a game. I sure in the heck wouldn’t blame it on the guy’s sexual preference. That wouldn’t even enter my mind. Most of the guys that I did play with that you speculated that didn’t have a problem with that.â€

I don't know if a gay player could have survived with Charles Haley. Unless of course it was Charles Haley

He's clearly speaking about Aikman. He even mentions it affecting his ability to throw passes, thats a stone cold lock, Troy Aikman officially loves the c**k. In and around his butthole and/or mouth. The "wife" is a boozehound about it, everything adds up.
