Tony Dungy questioned the maturity of Jay Cutler and Chicago's reasons to acquiring him on Thursday. "[The Bears] took a risk [trading for Cutler]. I think they took that risk specifically with beating the Green Bay Packers in mind," Dungy said according to the Chicago Tribune. "I really think Chicago gave up a lot to get a quarterback who they believe is going to be the final piece of the puzzle. But I am not sure he has won enough to merit that yet." Dungy says Cutler's maturity level remains to be seen. "That remains to be seen. He is a very talented guy who can throw the ball very well. But quarterbacking is so much about leadership and so much about doing things under pressure. There is going to be a lot of pressure on him," Dungy said. "We'll see about his maturity level. That's what I would question. And some of the things that happened leading to him leaving Denver ... that would concern me as a head coach," Dungy added. "He can make all of the throws, but quarterbacking is much more than just making throws." Source: Chicago Tribune
Why is Tony Dungy so vocal about Jay Cutler? I could understand if he was ripping another player in his former division(s) but this just seems random - like if he were to pipe in on Donovan Mcnabb or Chad Ochocinco or something.
I heard a very similiar interview on NFL Radio with Dungy...he said that he would not have traded for Cutler if he were in Lovie's shoes...
With the WR's in Chicago and just from the scheme, weather etc.... Cutler wont get what he has in the past but I still think he's the best QB the Bears have had in my lifetime.
So all of a sudden the Bears can't take a risk? Dungy, some risks work out, some don't. Does Jay Cutler have some growing up to do? Yeah but as long as he doesn't make Jerry Angelo regret giving up two first round draft picks, this is a good risk to take.
Cutler is a high risk high reward player right now. IMO he is the best young QB right now. He can only get better.
he hasnt shown any maturity. but if he can be anything close 2 what Manning could be later on. then that just might have been a steal for the bears.
Gold told him that being an outspoken snitch is the quickest way to analytical gold. Tony is a defensive minded coach so of course he would avoid a gun slinging QB type.
