Troy Polamalu Says Roger Goodell Has Too Much Power

Discussion in 'Pittsburgh Steelers' started by BigBlueBruiser, Nov 4, 2010.

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu had some choice words for commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday. Polamalu was critical of the league's crackdown on illegal hits and said Goodell has too much power. "He's got all the power, and that may be part of the problem. There needs to be some type of separation of power, like our government," Polamalu said. "I don't think it should be based totally on what two or three people may say that are totally away from the game. It should be some of the players that are currently playing." Since the NFL announced its stricter policy, Polamalu said, "There is definitely a paranoia that is unneeded. Just because we had a few weekends ago, I think somebody said, five [suspect] hits out of 1,000. Yeah, I think there is too much paranoia." Polamalu also believes the NFL's stance could lessen the sport's popularity in Europe, where the 49ers and Broncos played on Sunday. The NFL is aggressively marketing its game overseas, with talk that London could have a franchise within 10 years. "If people want to watch soccer, they can watch soccer. The people who are attracted to this game, they're going to see the big hits, they don't care about touchdowns," Polamalu said. "So you're also taking apart what attracts people to this game." Polamalu's comments come after teammate James Harrison was fined for the third time this season for an illegal hit.

Troy rarely speaks, but like E.F Hutton, when he speaks people listen. The league needs a committee of former players, coaches and maybe some respected media members to doll out the fines. It is getting out of hand with the amounts levied. Some semblance of balance needs to be structured for the intensity of each violation. Players making the league minimum would be chrushed getting a Fed-Ex package on Thursday at their locker.

The players need to stand together on this one, and get this crap taken care of. These freaking Mickey Mouse fines have got to go, and a bunch of cats determining what is too violent is a joke. I don't think any of those pansys have ever played football, and after seeing what players are getting fined for, they don't have a clue.

This Ravens fan makes sense!!

Definitely should be a committee of former players (Offense and Defense) and coaches on a committee with some NFL brbutt. I'd stay away from having the media people on there...

A committee of players won't ever work because players won't fine other players and the league can not reverse direction on it's efforts to reduce head and spine injuries. Which many of you might be surprised to learn is spearheaded by the NFL Player's association medical director.

Goodell definitely has too much of something. Taking the fun out of football. Let's attach flags to them, instead. Take contact out all together.

I'm waiting for a Poll out of ESPN for the fans to vote on Goodell being kicked out or not? I'll bet that sucker would run 80%, can the Baby.
