USC blue-chip offensive tackle Tyron Smith visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. Smith strengthened his draft status by running a 4.91 to 4.96 in the 40-yard dash during his Pro Day workout and bench pressed 225 pounds 31 times. He registered a 30-inch vertical leap, a 9-2 broad jump and also excelled in positional drills. The workout was attended by Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, who might wind up coaching Smith at the next level. The 20-year-old didn't work out at the NFL scouting combine other than bench pressing 225 pounds 29 times as he was still recovering from lateral meniscus surgery.
