Veteran free agent quarterback Todd Collins has rejected an offer to join the Chicago Bears and back-up Jay Cutler, Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports. The Bears have been in the market for a veteran back-up since the off-season began, but the need to acquire one escalated over the weekend when back-up quarterback Caleb Hanie suffered a shoulder injury in the pre-season opener. Chicago's offer reportedly contained no guaranteed money. Collins' minimum base salary would be $855,000, but with Hanie scheduled to return for the season-opener, Collins would almost certainly be left off the 53-man roster at the start of the regular season so the Bears could avoid guaranteeing his salary. Retired quarterback Trent Green rejected overtures on Monday. Source: Mac's Football Blog
