Earlier on Monday, the Minnesota Vikings used their franchise tag on linebacker Chad Greenway. That created questions about defensive end Ray Edwards and wide receiver Sidney Rice, who are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents. One option has been eliminated, as Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports that in an uncapped season, teams can only use the additional transition tag on players with six accrued seasons. Edwards (5) and Rice (4) have less than six accrued seasons. Source: Mac's Football Blog
I doubt this was an oversight, Rob Brzezinski knows his stuff. I wonder if the additional transition tag will be honored at all. Or if some other provision will be made for locking up RFAs.
