Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said Wednesday that he's been lobbying coach Mike Priefer to play special teams for some time, Ben Goessling of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press reports. "For the past two years, I've been trying to get in on field goal block," he said. "Come in off the edge, you know? It's just going to take one block for them to really be like, 'OK, you know what? Let's take the chance and let you go out there and get it done.' Kickoff return, I wouldn't mind getting back there. I'm in it to win." The Vikings have had to shuffle their kick return units with Percy Harvin out for the season. Last week Marcus Sherels ran back four kicks for a total of 124 yards. With the game on the line, though, Peterson said he wouldn't want to be on the sidelines. "I believe in having your best players on the field, especially in critical times," he said. "You never know what can happen. That's what I would do." Source: The Redzone
And risk losing you on offense, I don't think so man. Be smart, yes you're a beast but you also don't have people running at you at a full sprint from 30 yards away to make a tackle.
this would be a great risk by him and his team but imagine him on punt returns can you say another devin hester
Not even dude, he's not as fast as Hester and he is pretty much all power, as I said before yeah you're a beast but again you will have people getting a 30 yard sprint towards you and you will just get straight blown up, wayyyyy to risky.
I read somewhere a while back that AP and Chris Johnson ran the same 40 yard dash times at the combine which was 4.24 seconds (FREAKING FAST AS $#!&). Turns out that was wrong. AP ran a 4.38 and Hester ran a 4.41. AP's and Hester's 3 cone drill and 20 yard shuffle drill times were nearly identical as well. So he is as fast as Hester. Probably wouldn't want him returning kicks or blocking field goals in the regular season, but the post season is win or go home time. The only people who get hit more often than he does are the interior linemen. The best players want the ball in big situations. Jordan put up 45 points in 1997, game 5 against the Jazz with the flu. Donovan McNabb carried the Eagles on his back to win a game playing on a broken ankle for 2 quarters.
....... If I'm lined up on the outside blocking AP on a field goal I'm going for those bullseyes on his knees. Who gives a crap if a flag is thrown or I'm ejected from the game if that block tears AP's ACL and he's out in the first quarter in Game one of the playoffs? You said it right, one and done.
Don't you think they've been targeting his knee just about any time they could this year? Every play is a risk. I'm just saying that you can't fault the best player on your team wanting to do everything he/she can to help you win.
Let me rephrase the whole fast thing, he is not as quick. I understand him wanting the ball, but you've carried that team enough man, just stick to what you know carrying the offense.
Lol. Peterson like another Hester? That's completely laughable. Not every great rb is a good returner. I'm not saying he couldn't return kicks, but it would be stupid for him to try. The kick blocking thing is dumb too. He needs to just focus on freaking people up on offense.
I guess I see it differently. I watch him run and his cuts, starts and stops have a lot of burst. I see him pulling away from dbs when he runs, and those are the most fast twitch guys on the field. Herschel Walker was a good returner, and I think AP could be as well.
