No more undefeated teams. The last time no teams went 4-0 in the NFL was 1970. It's a crazy year that obviously needs a mathematical formula to sort through the mess. Here are the considerations/factors that go into this formula: Wins Losses Strength of Opponent Home Field Advantage Margin of Victory Yards gained Yards allowed #1 Jets (4-1) 44.1 -- Too much talent for most of their opponents #2 Steelers (3-1) 43.904 -- Let's see how good the offense is with Ben back #3 Giants (3-2) 38.955 -- If their D-line keeps this up, they are SB bound #4 Colts (3-2) 33.075 -- I don't think they're necessarily this good but the formula does #5 Falcons (4-1) 31.507 -- Continue to just win #6 Ravens (4-1) 28.224 -- This team hasn't even played it's best ball yet #7 Packers (3-2) 22.099 -- Are the problems/losses mounting too quickly to recover? #8 Buccaneers (3-1) 15.435 -- This team never quits #9 Chiefs (3-1) 15.19 -- Crennel has this defense playing well #10 Patriots (3-1) 14.455 -- Their defense will determine how far they can go #11 Bears (4-1) 13.622 -- When is Cutler coming back? #12 Chargers (2-3) 13.23 -- Finding new and interesting ways to lose #13 Bengals (2-3) 11.613 -- See Chargers #14 Cowboys (1-3) 8.33 -- See Bengals #15 Redskins (3-2) 3.675 -- They aren't quitting in games this year like they had been #16 Titans (3-2) 2.45 -- They just beat NFC teams. That's what they do #17 Broncos (2-3) -1.47 -- Can't count them out yet #18 Saints (3-2) -1.96 -- Once they get interested, they will beat up some people #19 Eagles (3-2) -4.018 -- Impressive win on Sun night they are not getting enough credit for #20 Dolphins (2-2) -4.998 -- How will they recover? #21 Lions (1-4) -8.82 -- Finally broke through and got the win. #22 Vikings (1-3) -8.918 -- For the record, I picked this team to miss the playoffs. I'm a genius (right now) #23 Jaguars (3-2) -9.555 -- How is this team 3-2? #24 Texans (3-2) -14.7 -- See Jaguars #25 Raiders (2-3) -14.945 -- If their kicker hadn't choked, they would have a winning record. Wow #26 Rams (2-3) -18.13 -- Games like Sunday are going to happen to a young team still learning #27 Seahawks (2-2) -18.375 -- This team is an enigma #28 Cardinals (3-2) -18.865 -- See Seahawks #29 Browns (1-4) -19.845 -- Are in trouble without Wallace #30 49ers (0-5) -25.97 -- Smith should not be benched #31 Panthers (0-5) -51.45 -- I predicted this abortion prior to the season #32 Bills (0-5) -61.74 -- Everyone predicted this abortion prior to the season
Crazy that the NFC division favorites in the preseason (Boys, 9ers, Vikes, Saints) have a combined 5 wins through week 5. **********Automerged Doublepost********** Also, how did the Chargers manage being 2-3 with this schedule so far... Chiefs Jags Seahawks Cards Raiders
Interesting article about the Chargers... Chargers' Record: The Best 2-3 You'll Ever See - NYTimes.com
Boltz, post yours too, please. I like you guys formula rankings. More interesting than opinion rankings imo.
well that formula is goobered. doesn't take into account head-to-head? As in, Ravens beat the Jets and are 5 spots lower.
It also doesnt account for the fact that any given sunday an infirior team can beat a supirior team.......... See Jets VS Ravens
Chargers are 2-3 because of their STs. 4 TDs allowed 3 blocked punts and a safety. That's 30 points allowed all on ST and all on the road. That's 10 points a game (3 games) Chargers have lost by 7, 7, 8. You cut the STs mistakes in half and we're at least 4-1, 3-2 at worst. And that's just looking at the scores, it ignores the long returns we allowed that weren't TDs, Seahawks would have had 3 return TDs if Washington didn't slip. Also another interesting fact, the Chargers have started 2-3 every year under Norv. Now for my Power Rankings, Chargers dropped some but not by too much because their 2 blowout wins are now against .600 teams. Biggest drop were the Rams. 2010 Season - Through Week 5: 1. Pittsburgh Steelers 15.94 2. New York Jets 14.11 3. Atlanta Falcons 13.14 4. New England Patriots 12.83 5. San Diego Chargers 11.51 6. Indianapolis Colts 11.46 7. Tennessee Titans 10.91 8. Bucs are ranked a little high for me. But hell a win this weekend might solidify them as a contender.
Maybe it just means that games are won on the field and that's what should count, not meaningless numbers. So you can't just say "the ravens are inferior to the jets" because a. it's not true and b. the ravens beat the jets so it really doesn't matter. since they have the same record and the ravens beat them ravens should be higher. who are 2-3. ravens have a better record so head-to-head shouldn't matter yet.
