In a discussion about Darren Woodsons HOF credentials at C-F I argued that while he had a great career, it was short of HOF standereds. He is a in my mind what should be a bubble candiate. I did some research on Safety's of that era and I realized just how short his career and many other great saftey really are. Woodson, Leroy Butler, Carnell Lake, Joey Browner, Deron Cherry, all what would seem borderline players. Might get in might not. All have about 5 Pro Bowl Selections, A few All Pro. careers that at other positions would get consideration. But then look at Steve Atwater. 8 time Pro Bowler, 4 Time All Pro, played in 3 SB's won 2...........Off the freaking ballot already. Is that fair considering that if he played LB he would have gotten in on his 2nd or 3rd try. No

Which leads me to Dawkins. Dawkins career accomplishments are in the same range as Atwater. 7 Pro Bowls, 4 All Pro's......... yada yada yada. However its widley thought that Dawkins will be a HOFer down the line. Now Ed Reed is getting close to being a lock, which seems like a neccesity to being a HOF Safety (you need to be Lott).

And while Dawkins getting in wont help the guys mention before, (I think Woodson not being eligble yet is the only one that will appear on a ballot, I believe all the others have been eliminated, and even then Woodson will be on and off long before Dawkins is even eliglble), Dawkins getting in may open the door for todays Safety's to get more consideration when there careers are over
