Why Alex Rodriguez’ suspension just doesn’t matter

There’s a scene in one of Bill Murray’s earlier movies, Meatballs, where Murray, a camp counselor, is coaching his kids the night before their competition against the heavily favored Camp Mohawk. Murray tells his kids that whether they win or lose, “It just doesn’t matter.

I couldn’t help but think of those four words when news broke that Alex Rodriguez had been banned one full year for violating Major League Baseball’s drug policy.

    It just doesn’t matter.

That was a great read. I agree with you that it doesn't matter anymore. The steroid era has tainted the most cherished records in all of sports. Like you said, who is the home run king? Ask ten people and you'll get different responses. Look at Biggio falling 2 votes short of the hall just because he played in the steroid era. 2 votes!

A-rod brought this on himself and I hope he never plays another game.

    Thanks, Bears.

There's not too many people in ARod's corner at this point which almost makes me want to root for the guy.

I know he's a tool and a liar but he's not the only guy to cheat and he's bearing the brunt of the punishment.

I say we put the system on trial, he he.

Biggio falling short by two votes is bull crap...he should just be in. The whole process of Hall of Fame voting and limited numbers of players getting in is just silly...

I'm not a big Biggio guy, Bears, but I see your point.

I heard they were considering amending the rule so that if you fall just short like Biggio did, they'll make an exception.

Either way, they have to draw the line somewhere, don't they?

Used to be 300 wins, 500 homers, and 3,000 hits got you into the hall. It's a shame that a player like Biggio hasn't gotten in yet but in this era of baseball, how do you know if a player didn't juice? You don't. A line has to be drawn and it already has been by the players who have juiced. Unfortunately players like Biggio are the casualty. I have no way of knowing if Biggio was clean throughout his career and that's a shame cause he was among my favorite players to watch. Look at Maddux and Glavine. Clearly they don't represent players who looked like they juiced at all but how do you know? Then look at Thomas. He's always been a big guy so he must have been juicing right? I wonder if his public comments against juicing influenced the voters to vote him in on his first ballot. That is not to say he didn't deserve it.

Idk a reform on how the bbwaa vote on players might be needed but if they don't know who was clean or not, what good will a reform do?

Can't argue with a single word of that, Bears.

Players have been juicing since the 70's and it's never been an issue before. It's not like this "generation" has sinned more than others.

So then we let 'em all in, Nuts?

Yes I absolutely think you let them all in as long as they don't have a failed test or a Biogenesis type allegation. Hell yeah. Go nuts.

If I had a vote, I'd put in both Clemens and Bonds, but that's just me.

we all know he isn't the only guy but HE is the reason the brunt of the attention is on him.

but somehow he's like an underdog to you or something ?

oh i agree 100% ... baseball/selig KNEW and allowed it because of the ratings/revenue that came with the use of PED's. selig is a POS and to me it's further proven by how braun is basically an afterthought to MLB eventhough what he did is much worse in compasrion to afraud.

If, or perhaps when, Braun gets popped again, I'll be interested in seeing how Major League Baseball handles that.

that's the thing, he was caught, he lied about it. went on a public campaign to slander any and all who were involved in the testing, to the point that it led to a guy getting wrongfully terminated from his job, got caught again and then suddenly became remorseful but of course only after he had no alternative.

and yet IMO because he's a brewer (hi selig family), his situation is buried by MLB.

people are gonna remember his whining, pissing and moaning about being innocent than they are his play on the field. he should say he's sorry, take his punishment, and move on with his life after baseball.
