Maybe it's just my imagination, but it seems I am seeing teams throw deep on 3rd and 2 or 3rd and 3 more than ever this season in the NFL. In fact, I've seen it so much this season, it's almost becoming predictable. Obviously, play callers are trying to catch defenses being over-aggressive and playing near the l.o.s. but just off the top of my head, I don't think much more than 10-20% of these deep passes are being completed. Whatever it is, it has to be a really low number. For some of us, the situation in the game would determine whether or not we threw deep on 3rd and short. However, I'm seeing coaches throw deep in every situation of the game. So, it begs the question, would you throw deep on 3rd and short in any situation and often or would it be a rare occurrence just depending on the situation in the game?
I think it's stupid, especially if the game is still close. I don't mind throwing the ball on like a quick slant on 3rd and short but going for the deep play doesn't make sense to me. Bill O'Brien did this all the time back in 09 :icon_evil:
and maybe it's my imagination, but i am seeing it at an alarming rate this season and it's just killing drives .............. i've seen very few completions.
