I remember watching the end of the race live - we were out in Colorado on a ski vacation, and we had just come in for a break. I thought to myself that it didn't look like a bad wreck at all, and once we saw that Waltrip won we switched the channel. Later on that night we heard the news that he had died and we were all completely blown away. To think that if they had the safety features in place then like they do now (SAFER barriers, HANS devices for drivers) Dale would still be alive and probably still racing.
Crazy that it's been that long...I'm not a NASCAR fan whatsoever, but this impacted any sports fan...it'd be like Jordan or Montana passing...tragic.
