Are you as thoroughly confused as I am by the ongoing drama surrounding DeSean Jackson? The past week has brought a flurry of rampant rumors, proclamations and ambiguity while leaving Eagles fans scratching their heads about their young playmaking wide receiver.
2013 was the best of Jackson's short career, posting career high numbers. His 82 catches for 1,332 yards and 9 touchdowns earned him his third trip to Hawaii. Even though he has shown he can thrive in new head coach Chip Kelly's system, there seems to be some disconnect with the speedy receiver.
Reports from league circles indicated that the Eagles had put the word out that they would listen to offers for Jackson. San Francisco, Seattle, New England, Carolina and the New York Jets were reported to have shown interest. Jets owner Woody Johnson: "we're looking at a lot of players. Including DeSean." The problem for any potential suitors is Jackson's hefty price tag, coming in at $10.7 million for 2014. Aside from the trade rumors, some believe that if the Eagles can't trade him, they might cut him.
Per Jimmy Kempski of philly.com: In the last week or so, trade talks for DeSean Jackson have escalated. However, the Eagles decided to move on from Jackson well over a month ago, and possibly earlier. It is absolutely not something they decided to do over the last week or two. That of course, should not come as a surprise, but it is something we can confirm via a source close to the team.
Confused yet? Good, because there is yet another twist. Recently Jackson posted a picture of Chip Kelly chasing him with a foam bat during last year's training camp with the following message: "Good to Talk to Big Chip today !! Say or hear what ya want !! The Picture speaks for itself !! Winner… "
So where does this leave us? The answer is clear, nobody knows. Throughout this up and down story, Eagle's brass have remained silent. Stay tuned for the end of this saga. If it is anything like what we have gotten so far, we are in for some more twists and turns.
What say you?
