Travis Andersen, Boston Globe staff, reported yesterday that Aaron Hernandez was involved in a fight with another inmate at the Bristol County House of Corrections in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
Hernandez, Inmate No. 174594, formerly No. 81 of the New England Patriots, is being held without bail as he awaits trial for the alleged murder of Odin L. Lloyd, formerly of Dorchester, MA. Hernandez is also facing weapons charges. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Aaron Hernandez is currently under investigation for involvement in a double homicide in Boston in July 2012. No charges have as yet been made in that investigation.
Andersen reports that Bristol County sheriff's office spokesperson, Bernie Sullivan, related that Hernandez was in a scuffle with another inmate at the correction's facility and that there is an ongoing investigation and additional charges may be made. In light of this investigation, Sullivan declined further comment on this matter.
Sullivan said the fight took place in a special unit, an 8-foot by 12-foot locked exercise cage.
Subsequently, in an article in the Boston Herald this morning, written by O'Ryan Johnson and Rob McGovern, Bristol County Sheriff, Thomas M. Hodgson, confirmed the altercation took place and that it was under investigation. Video tapes and interviews are being conducted. The fight took place early yesterday afternoon, and neither man required medical attention.
Hodgson told the Herald that assaults inside the facility are taken seriously and can result in criminal charges. Hodgson also said any altercation usually results in separation of the assailants within the prison to avoid further altercations.
