Bobby Jenks continues to go downhill in a big way and last night’s debacle (four runs—three of them earned—on four hits and a three run homer to Fred Lewis) is just about as much as Ozzie Guillen is gonna take.
It is almost certain now that Jenks will be axed considering is unhelpful 6.75 ERA, and it is almost certain that Matt Thornton will be the new guy in the closer spot with J.J Putz and Sergio Santos licking their chops not too far in the background.
Thornton has a very comfortable 2.35 ERA and 0.72 WHIP with a 2-2 record and an astonishing 25/3 K/BB making him a tasty waiver option considering nobody really knows about him just yet.
Thornton has a dominating fastball that is effective on both left handed batters as well as righties, and has a sneaky slider that works well with his heat to efficiently strike out batters—9.6 K/9 rate lifetime.
Grab him now while you can and I promise you won't be sorry. Hey I was right about Dallas Braden wasn't I?
