Michael Pineda, Felix Hernandez, Cliff Lee and Tim Lincecum are four of the aces who are two start pitchers this week and highlight week 10 of the fantasy baseball season.
The Oakland Athletics rotation took another hit tuesday as 23-year old left-hander Brett Anderson landed himself on the 15-day disabled list. This will have a major impact on the A's rotation that is already with Dallas Braden, Brandon McCarthy, and Tyson Ross. June has not been kind to the A's as their team ERA for the month sits at 5.59 so far and now they lose their No. 2 starter.
Wednesday, June 8
Although Zach Britton has been roughed up in his last two starts, he gets to pitch against the A's on Wednesday at home where his ERA is more than 2 full runs better. Oakland's offense hasn't been able to get much done since the calendar turned to June , their team average for the month is .232 and they've scored only 21 runs. Britton can easily take advantage of this light hitting ball club, start him.
Justin Masterson has been a revelation for fantasy owners this year, but his luck is about to run out. He is coming off two of his worst starts of the year and now he faces a red hot Twins team that leads the major leagues in runs scored in June. Masterson will more than likely turn out to be a decent fantasy starter this year, but his run at the top tier will end with Minnesota this week, sit him.
Thursday, June 9
After a string of starts between April 26 and May 14 where Aaron Harang went 1-2 and his ERA rocketed from 1.88 to 5.04 he has mostly been forgotten. However, he's been fabulous in his four starts since, winning just one game, but allowing just 5 earned runs in 27.2 innings. He faces the Nationals on Thursday and looks to continue is comeback season for the Padres, start him.
Friday, June 10
Jo-Jo Reyes has won back to back starts after going 28 consecutive turns without a win, but don't get too excited. He faces Boston during his next outing and is going to have to face the streaking Red Sox who have been one of the best teams in baseball over the last month. Carl Crawford is finally hitting and Reyes doesn't have overpowering stuff. His 1.51 WHIP and Boston's lineup stand in the way of three straight wins, sit him.
Dillon Gee hasn't been great, but he's 6-0 and the Mets are 8-0 in his starts this year which means they are scoring runs when he pitches. He is coming off a dominant start against Atlanta and gets the Pirates on Friday, start Gee.
Saturday, June 11
Max Scherzer has struggled mightily in his last three starts, giving up 19 runs in 13.2 innings. He has watched his ERA jump to 4.69 and his WHIP is at 1.49, but the K's have been there and he gets some breathing room against the light hitting Mariners, who are 28th in baseball in runs scored, on Saturday. Start Scherzer, but do so with caution.
Ted Lilly is back to must start status after his last three starts. He has been mostly unimpressive this year, going 4-5 with a 4.13 ERA, but he's on his way back to being one of the most consistent starters in baseball. He'll face the Rockies at Coors field, but he's has had success against Colorado in the last few seasons. He's 3-1 against the Rockies in the last three seasons and his ERA is 3.52 over that span, start him.
Sunday, June 12
John Danks had been awful until his latest start against Seattle on Monday in which he pitched 7.1 scoreless innings to earn his first victory of the year. He gets to face the A's on Sunday and perhaps his confidence is high enough for him to make it two in a row against the weak AL West. Oakland is tied with Seattle for 28th in baseball in runs scored. In the last three seasons Danks is 3-1 and has an ERA of 2.65 against Oakland, start him.
