Who is this kid? Listed as one of 35 linebackers at the combine, he does not stand out as one of the big boys populating all the mock drafts. Measuring in at 6'0 and 232 pounds he is among the shortest linebackers, and definitely on the small side. So Pierre-Louis, understandably, is not going to expect to be drafted on the first day.
Why is this guy a surprise? Take a look at some of his other numbers. His 4.51-sec in the 40 Yd dash was first among linebackers. He was tied for third in the bench press event with 28 reps, five more than defensive lineman and potential first pick in the draft, Jadeveon Clowney. Kevin was third in the vertical jump at 39 inches, one place behind Khalili Mack another potential first round pick. Pierre-Louis tied for second in the 20 Yd shuttle and had an impressive 6.92-sec 3 cone drill. Kevin was tied for second in the broad jump at 10' 8 inches. Summary of results:
-
First in 40 Yd dash
-
Third in bench press
-
Third in vertical jump
-
Second in 20 Yd shuttle
-
Sixth in 3 cone drill
-
Second in broad jump
Kevin was a four year starter at Boston College in the ACC, starting all 13 games as a true freshman. He had a career 360 tackles, 214 solo. He lead the ACC in solo tackles and is fifth in the nation among active career solo tackles. He also had 8.5 career sacks and 23 tackles for a loss.
CBS has him projected as a 6th or 7th round pick, but he may be a steal there. He is likely to be a cover back on defense, given his size, and be a special team player to start.
