The Green Bay Packers have some interesting moves in free agency that they have to make this off-season. Six names jump out at me on the list of their free agents and they are:
- Jermichael Finley TE
- Ryan Pickett DT
- B.J. Raji DE
- James Jones WR
- John Kuhn FB
- Sam Shields CB.
I see the Packers eventually signing Pickett, Jones, Kuhn, and Shields to multi-year contracts.
Finley is a question mark because of his health, he would be a huge risk and the Packers are not a team to take risks. He has been cleared to play next season but there has been talk of him getting signed by the New York Giants due to his friendship with Antrel Rolle. If the Packers and Finley do not come to an agreement expect them to resign Andrew Quarless and use a late draft pick on a TE.
The other free agent I do not see signing with the Packers during the offseason is DE B.J Raji, his production has been down since the Super Bowl season in 2010. Raji has out priced himself for the Green Bay Packers supposedly turning down an $8 million annual contract. Also with very little production coming from Raji since the Super Bowl run in 2010 I do not expect the Packers to pay him over $8 million. Though the Packers have made it clear that they do want Raji back, so if Raji tests his luck in free agency and a team does not want to pay him over $8 million look to see him back in Green Bay, but for a price.
The Packers need help in their secondary and I could see the Pack going after a big name guy like Captain Munnerlyn from the Panthers. The Packers aren’t known for going out and getting big name free agents even though the last time they did it they grabbed Charles Woodson then won a Super Bowl. Another name that is quite a possibility is T.J Ward from the Cleveland Browns. Ward had a productive 2013 season and isn’t a huge name on the free agency wire. He could quietly have a big season in Green Bay next season and is likely a signee.
