Minnesota Vikings To Pursue Mike Wallace?

March 7, 2013 by Kurt Turner

Mike Wallace in purple and gold, how does that sound Minnesota? Well according to The Miami Herald, the Dolphins "privately" see the Vikings as their greatest "bidding-war" threat.

Moreover, Mike Wallace is one of three high-profile receivers left on the market so a possible invitation to Minnesota is as intriguing as it gets.

Earlier this week I wrote about the possibility of Greg Jennings Going to Minnesota, but the Vikings may sway towards the younger Mike Wallace if the investment cost is low enough.

There are, however, two major issues facing Minnesota.

1. Minnesota still has to figure out what they're gonna do with Percy Harvin. What we and they do know, is there is no trade in the future. If, however, the two sides can't find a middle ground, there is belief that Harvin could hold out. The money alone involved could hurt Minnesota's chances of grabbing Mike Wallace.

2. The Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts both have much more money to play with than Minnesota. Miami could lose a chunk of their bartering power after the expected re-signing of Brian Hartline, which would relegate Indy king of the mountain, should they decide to extend an invitation and offer.

How's that for a free agency weekend primer?

Fantasy Spin: Regardless of where he goes, Mike Wallace will still be viewed as a Top 10 receiver in fantasy. I like Wallace's chances better in Minnesota than in Miami, but I like his chances in Indy the best of the three.

Minnesota is definitely in the market for an elite receiver and Mike Wallace certainly fits that bill, but money will be the ultimate roadblock. If the Dolphins somehow come out on top, I'll be lowering Wallace just a tiny bit. If any other team wins, he'll elevate ever so slightly in the rankings.

Other potential teams could be New England, Seattle, Detroit and Houston. In addition to these teams, Cincinnati and Cleveland are also very much alive cap wise.

Here's a quick overview of the 2013 Free Agent Market schedule:

The free agent market officially opens March 12th, but teams can begin negotiating with representatives of unrestricted free agents ONLY, as early as Saturday March 9th—they cannot wax with non-RFA reps until the 12th. Additionally, players are not allowed to visit club facilities over the weekend.

Simply put, there will be a ton of news coming across the wire this weekend and you can count on us at Fantasyknuckleheads.com to bring you the latest.

Let the games begin!
