Pittsburgh Steelers Biggest 2013 Team Need:

January 29, 2013 by Kurt Turner

The Pittsburgh Steelers are an interesting bunch with an interesting set of needs. Here’s an excerpt from my mock draft piece regarding the Pittsburgh Steelers:

“The Steelers could go a couple of ways here (DT, TE, SS, FS) but I really believe they need help at the LB position, particularly from a player that can switch from inside to outside. The main reasoning here is to sure up what was a suspect bunch ( Larry Foote I’m looking your way, sir) and the talented Ogletree would be too good to pass up if available. Filling in the blanks at TE, SS, FS and even DT can be handled in the coming rounds with little to no waste in talent, but not LB.”

It really does sum up one of the issues facing the Pittsburgh Steelers, but this team will also have to make a decision regarding James Harrison who is 35 and owed roughly $6.6 million dollars.

Harrison dealt with a knee injury all season long in 2012 which could’ve attributed to his down season, but in order to return he’ll have to restructure his current contract at the very least.

Either way you look at it, the Steelers need a quality LB for the now and the not-too-distant future.

Alec Ogletree, Georgia, is the sort of LB who can play in multiple schemes, with a assortment of responsibilities. He’s just as much “the real deal” as a run stopper as he is in pass coverage of any variety.

The pool of distinctive linebackers is rather shallow, and the Pittsburgh Steelers may be forced to go this route because of the fact, but it’s a player worth paying the price for in the end.

This concludes the AFC North. Up next will be the AFC East and be sure to follow my continued coverage of the NFL below.
