Well…that game sucked. This year’s Superbowl was about as much fun as watching a fight between an elephant and a bunny rabbit. And I don’t say that as a Broncos fan, or as a Manning fan, but as a fan of professional sports. It was a perfect storm of dull and painful. But that’s not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about my top 5 favorite Superbowl commercials, which actually helped me to forget about that miserable game for about two minutes! And for that fact alone, these commercials should be celebrated.

Let me get this out of the way. "Is there anything more American than America?" sounds like something Ron Burgundy from Anchorman would say to sound poetic. Other than that, its a great commercial and I love its emphasis on roads and how important than are to American culture. Plus, Bob Dylan is still one of the coolest people ever. And I am just a sucker for dramatic narration.

Yeah, a Matrix parody in 2014 might seem a little old at this point, but come on! Its Laurence Fishburne! And he's singing Opera! Its funny, its well produced, and it actually makes the car look classy as heck. In the sea of car commercials, this one managed to stand out.

Of all the commercials this year, this is the one that made me laugh the hardest. I have already watched it about 10 times, trying to spot all the 80s characters and references. Hulk Hogan! Chuckie! The freaking California Raisins! And I don't even remember the 80s, it must have been even better for people who were around for all those synthesizers, and questionable hair choices. I don't see this one ever getting old.

I could say I love this commercial because its clever. It could be its brilliance in its simplicity. It could be because it actually made me smile when the game was almost over and I had lost all hope of that festival of misery ever getting interesting. It could be because its honest. But really, its because they use that song from the Disney version of Robin Hood, and I loved that movie when I was a kid and it got me all nostalgic. Don't judge me.

Budweiser
Seriously, why is it always a dang beer commercial that manages to get me all misty eyed? Last year there was that Clydesdale and its trainer and Landslide, and now this. Its about a freaking horse and a puppy becoming best friends! Its like the Budweiser ad department is being run by Care Bears, its just too adorable to even deal with. Its so adorable, I demand a spin-off commercial where we see the Clydesdale and the puppy have adventures while their owners fall in love and maybe solve mysteries or something. I love this commercial!
