Raiders To Receive QB Matt Schaub Pending Physical

March 21, 2014 by Daniel Wunderle

The Oakland Raiders have been very busy this offseason adding pieces to there secondary, offensive line, and defensive front. If they can manage to pull through on this trade from the Texans, it would open up a whole new draft strategy this may. Yes Schaub had a down year last year, but all quarterbacks do.

Can Schaub bounce back for fantasy owners in '14?

For Oakland, having a QB who has thrown over 25,000 yards, and has almost a 65% completion rate should be dynamite for this team. They definitely need to find ways to stay competitive in the suddenly highly competitive AFC West division.  If they do land Schaub, they will be able to pick for best value available. Getting someone like Sammy Watkins as a wide out would definitely help Schaub in his transition. If they can stay healthy and keep there concentrations with penalties late in games, look for them to at worst have an 8-8 season. At best, look for them to be in the playoff hunt late in the season and end there post season and winning record drought since 02.

Making the playoffs and getting some studs in the draft this year would be a super start for Coach Dennis Allen, and GM Reggie McKenzie. Having been dealt an awful hand of players and a strapped salary cap to work with the past 2 years, The Raiders could at worst be relevant.

Now with a massive amount of cap space and shoring up major positions, they may have set them up very nicely with a cap rollover into next years free agent class. The Oakland Raiders are preparing for the future and pending on Matt Schaub's Physical, will help them speed up the process with this trade. However, it may take them a bit longer to rebuild if it all falls through. In that case, look for them to finish between 6-10 and 8-8 again, drafting high in the draft,  and  looking for QB help and patchwork of there roster.

Matt Schaub can help the Raiders be competitive, relevant and potentially make the playoffs, but look for them to find a star next year in free agency or the draft if things fall through. At least, right now, things are looking bright for the Silver and Black.
