Despite primarily being fantasy sports related site, we often like to comment on other events throughout the sporting world.
Today I do such a thing out of respect for one of the greatest entertainer of all-time: Randy “Macho Man Savage” Poffo.
As many of you know, Macho Man Randy Savage suddenly passed away in a car accident last Friday near the Tampa, Florida area.
Many of us “X” generationers literally grew up with Macho Man and his glory days in what was originally the WWF.
Whether it was his famed encounters with Jake “The Snake” Roberts, “The Nature Boy” Rick Flair, Tito Santana—or my personal favorite—his 1992 Summer Slam match against the Ultimate Warrior, everyone can agree that he was one of the greatest individuals in the sports entertainment arena, hands down.
Savage was a twenty-time champion winnerships during his professional wrestling career and is a ten-time world champion: a two-time WWF Champion, four-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, three-time ICW World Heavyweight Champion and one-time USWA Unified World Heavyweight Champion.
Savage was also a one-time WWF Intercontinental Champion.
The WWE has named Savage the greatest champion of all-time and credited him for bringing "a higher level of credibility to the title through his amazing in-ring performances."[
Aside from championships, Savage was also the 1987 WWF King of the Ring and the 1995 WCW World War 3 winner. For much of his tenures in the WWF and WCW, he was managed by his real life wife, "Miss Elizabeth" Hulette.
He will be greatly missed among many people, and our condolences go out to his family and friends.
