Four minor injuries are putting Ravens players at risk of not getting in a full offseason of practice. While Kelechi Osemele will most likely participate in OTAs, it is probable that Bernard Pierce will have to wait until summer training. He has had surgery on his rotatory cuff and needs time to recover. Last offseason, Yanda had to sit on the sidelines until well into August due to his shoulder surgery. Fortunately, he recovered in time to play throughout the season.
Kelechi Osemele was the other player who sustained an injury that might have delayed his training. Due to a herniated spinal disk he played seven games last season before going into the injured reserve. As of now he is recovering from the surgery at the Under Armour Performance Center.
During the NFL Scouting Combine on Friday, Ravens Coach John Harbaugh commented on their status. “Bernard is probably going to be (incapacitated) until training camp. He's got a shoulder surgery along the lines of Marshal Yanda, but we expect him to start training camp on the first day, but it's a long way from now. “We expect (Osemele) to start the offseason program,” Harbaugh said. “He's in there working out. K.O. is way far along in his training. He's doing great. He's in there every day. ”
The final surgery the Ravens have to keep on their radar is that of Gino Gradkowsi. The center needed scope surgery on his knee but since the surgery went well Harbaugh states that Gradkowski is getting in his workouts.
Last season Aaron Mellete went into the injured reserve because he sustained a knee injury early on. There was no information given about how he is recovering, but Mellete let fans know in the beginning of February that he is allowed to play via Twitter.
Other than addressing these minor physical problems bothering the players, there were no serious injuries as the offseason started for the Ravens. All but one Raven are ready to start conditioning together in April which is voluntary but may give the players a better look at how their injuries will affect them this season.
