There have been a lot of players over the last decade that would have loved to have seen their pictures not be on the cover of a Madden video game. If there is one player though who is likely going to be embrace the cover, it is Seattle Seahawks corner Richard Sherman. Sherman will be on this year’s “Madden NFL 15” after winning the fan voting on ESPN.com. Sherman will be just the third defensive player to make the cover of the video game and will be hoping that he doesn’t end up with the same fate as many players before him.
There is the so-called “Madden Curse” where players who make the cover end up getting hurt or being unproductive the season they appear. That may be the case and it has been proven that many players who were the cover athlete have had bad seasons for one reason or another but Sherman could be the exception to the rule. Sherman’s antics on the field give him a measure of cockiness that may allow him to avoid the “curse”. More rants like this can be expected.
He beat out Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in the final voting and probably got some help during that from Panthers coach Ron Rivera, who was openly voting against his quarterback during that final vote. It is always possible that Newton has the bad season considering the changes that have happened with Carolina in the offseason but for now, the focus should be on Sherman and what he can do with the Madden target on his back.
The Seahawks as a whole are going to be looking for their second straight Super Bowl title and especially in a loaded NFC West; they are going to need Sherman to be at his best. Sherman has had eight interceptions during each of the last two seasons and is getting the reputation of being one of the best cornerbacks in all of the NFL. The video game comes out on Aug. 15 with Sherman’s face right there for the masses to see. It’s only a matter of time before everyone finds out whether or not the curse gets to Sherman this season. Every fan in Seattle truly hopes it doesn't.
