Name: Ryan Braun
Position: Outfielder
Team: Milwaukee Brewers
Age: 26
Overview: Ryan Braun might well be a first overall selection if he still maintained the third base eligibility he entered the majors with three season ago, and perhaps the one reason so many owners are talking Alex Rodriguez ahead of him in drafts. However, if you read My First Pick In The 2010 Fantasy Draft article, you already know I think this kid is the third overall pick this season.
Braun was born November 17, 1983 in Los Angeles, California. Being of Jewish heritage he picked up the nick name, the Hebrew Hammer. Braun came up through the Milwaukee Brewers farm system, and was at one time heralded as a brilliant young shortstop. He hit the Brewers major league line up with high expectations among fans and fantasy owners in 2007, and the hype was well deserved.
Braun won the 2007 NL Rookie of the Year Award by leading all MLB rookies in slugging percentage at .634. He also won Sporting News NL Rookie of the Year, the Baseball America Rookie of the Year, the Baseball Prospectus Internet Baseball NL Rookie of the Year, and the Players Choice NL Most Outstanding Rookie Award. He joins another first round stud, Albert Pujols, as the only NL Player to achieve this feat.
Braun moved from third base to the outfield in his second season. For the last two years, 2008/2009, Ryan has been selected to the starting All Star team both years, and he's snagged two Silver Slugger awards to boot. Braun is another 5-tool stud. He led the NL in hits in 2009 with 203. There's no reason the 26-year-old can't do it again.
