Here we go again, kids. Ryan Madson is currently on the 15 day DL retro to June 19th, and don’t be surprised if that gets extended to 30 or even 60 days.
Madson began feeling numbness in his pitching hand in the middle of the month despite putting up quality numbers so far (2.03 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with a 34:11 K:BB ratio in 31 innings), but now will be dealing with a bruise in addition to the other issue.
Antonio Bastardo will likely fill-in for the Phillies who isn’t too bad himself as he is the owner of a 0.93 ERA, 3 saves, 3 wins and a 33:13 K:BB ratio.
Charlie Manuel could also play the matchups with Michael Stutes, who again, isn’t all that bad with a 2.81 ERA, 3 wins and a 26:15 K:BB ratio.
Well, at least Philly has options, right?
Out of the two, however, I would lead more heavily towards Bastardo who has proven himself worthy enough to now be picked up in mixed leagues, as well as deeper leagues—not just NL only.
