San Francisco 49ers Biggest 2013 Team Need

January 28, 2013 by Kurt Turner

Super Bowl XLVII is less than a week away, but that isn't too early to begin discussing the biggest team need for the San Francisco 49ers or even the Baltimore Ravens.

You’ll have to wait for Baltimore coming later this week, but here’s a nice slideshow for you in the meantime.

The San Francisco 49ers need a few pieces. They need to consider adding both a RB and WR for the future, but should be able to wait for both positions.

What I believe the 49ers need to do first is secure a quality DT for the immediate and future.

Let’s face it, Justin Smith isn't getting any younger and his body is beginning to catch up with the mileage. After Super Bowl XLVII, Smith will undergo surgery to repair the torn triceps that have plagued him the past month or so.

He should be able to compete in Super Bowl XLVII, but made an interesting comment in Matt Barrow’s 49ers Q&A hosted by the Sacramento Bee:

"I know how many games I have left now - four more quarters,". Speaking in regard to his injury and playing with a brace.

I really believe with the draft scenario before them the San Francisco 49ers target the heir apparent with their first round selection, and that selection could be Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida.

Don’t let the tackle tag throw you off. Floyd has the build of a true tackle (6’3”, 303 pounds) and it’s considered his “natural” position, but this kid has played every position on the line in his career for the Gators, including one full year as a DE.

The 49ers will get one or two more years out of Justin Smith (hopefully) which is plenty of time to acclimate Floyd and ready him for the possible takeover.

Floyd is an exceptional player who has the versatility any team will find intriguing, and enough balance and speed to find a home anywhere in the NFL.

The 49ers will look for a prototypical replacement for Smith for sure. That player needs to be highly mobile, fast off the line, and talented enough to be an immediate difference maker if he is to learn from one of the best in the business (Smith).

I believe San Fran can find what they’re looking for in Sharrif Floyd.

This concludes the entire NFC. I will be moving onto the AFC starting tomorrow, in the meantime, check out some other needs from around the conference below.
