Texans Live with Andre Johnson; Die Without Him

June 16, 2014 by Ryan Puckett

It would be in the best interest of the Houston Texans to get Andre Johnson on board for this upcoming season.  The man is the

The Texans need Andre Johnson to have a successful 2014 season.

face of the franchise and has been one of the best receivers in the NFL for a long time.  He caught 109 passes for just over 1,400 yards a year ago, 57 more catches than anyone else on the team.  He will be 33 years old before next season, but he is still producing very well.

In my opinion, the Texans have done very well this offseason in filling their needs, but all that work goes out the window if they don't get Johnson on board.  Check out my article on the Houston Texans 2014 Team Needs.

Johnson has been quoted as saying:

"I just look at my career. ... I've only been to the playoffs twice. I think we've only had three winning seasons," said Johnson, according to the Houston Chronicle. "I don't think any player wants to experience that. I think over time it can become very frustrating.  And this offseason has been very frustrating for me; beginning of the offseason, I should say. That's just kind of where I'm at right now."

Johnson went on to say that his main reason for being unhappy is because he is tired of losing.  This is understandable because he knows that he does not have many more seasons left, but the Texans should remind him that 11 of the Texans 14 losses were by 7 points or less.  That is remarkable considering the amount of turnovers they had.

The Texans' glaring needs were in the amount of sacks and interceptions they had last year and to quit turning the ball over so much.  So, the Texans draft arguably the best pass rusher in the draft in Jadeveon Clowney and then sign safety Chris Clemons.  These two new players will greatly help the Texans improve in the number of sacks and interceptions.

Johnson has earned the right to grip some, but when he gets to camp I think he will see the Texans have a chance to improve and be a good football team.  He will find a pretty good veteran quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick.  The signing of running back Andre Brown will help the running game and the drafting of Xavier Su'a-Filo and C. J. Fiedorowicz will help out the running game and passing game.  The re-signing of Garrett Graham was also a good move for the Texan offense.

If Johnson does play for the Texans then the offense and whole team will be so much better with him, but without him the Texans will struggle mightily on offense, which will also cause the defense to struggle as well.
