Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe is reporting Victor Martinez will be placed on the disabled list today, Tuesday June 29th with a fractured thumb. While this is terrible news for Martinez owners, it is also noted that the thumb WILL NOT require surgery.
Martinez is hitting .289/.344/.480 with 9 HR and 38 RBI.
Here’s a look at some short term options at catcher.
John Buck – Blue Jays: Buck keeps on rolling for the Jays as one of the top catchers in the league, believe it or not, with 13 homeruns and 40 RBI with a 49% ownership
A.J.Pierzynski – White Sox: Until Tyler Flowers makes it up to the bigs, Pierzynski is the man on the South Side. He is currently hitting .242/.281/.363 with 4 homers and 20 RBI and is a tasty option given how hot the White Sox are right now, and the upcoming schedule.
Jason Kendall – Royals: Kendall started off hot, cooled off a bit, and now seems to be heating up again. In his last two games, Kendall has hit .571/.667/.857 with 5 RBI and has a 9% ownership in most leagues.
