Playing matchups with the defense is huge for Week One. When you have teams like the Jets and Raiders, who virtually have the worst offenses in the league, taking a look at the Buccaneers and Colts defenses could become valuable. At least for this week.Gotta love the Colts versus Oakland, they crack the top 10 in my week 1 defensive fantasy football rankings.The Colts' matchup is extremely tantalizing, since they will be performing at home against what should be a moribund Oakland offense. Rookie Menelik Watson will start at LT, even though his only previous experience at the position occurred during the team’s preseason finale. The O-line will have difficulty establishing the run, which will force Terrelle Pryor to throw. But he does not have the benefit of a proven possession WR, or a reliable veteran presence at TE, This is a massive mismatch, which will result in a huge day for owners who spot start the Colts.
Great to have football season back in full swing. You'll notice some new names at the top part of the list. Some teams have fantastic match ups to help you get out of the gate this season with a W.
The Colts are the first team to benefit from playing a horrible Oakland offense and they should be available on your waiver wire if you are one of those teams that goes with a different D every week.
I've been high on the Rams defense for a little bit now and they should show everyone why right out of the gate. The Rams D is young and fast and when they get a team like Arizona at home on the turf they are definitely a defense you can play and feel comfortable.
The Arizona Cardinals could be a huge sleeper pick this week as far as defenses go. I didn't rank them all that high because in my opinion it is 'Boom or Bust' for the Cardinals D. Arizona has a great secondary and they are going up against a pass heavy offense in St. Louis...this is usually a formula for turnovers and possibly defensive touchdowns. That would be ideal the only thing I fear is that D. Richardson will be able to make the Cardinals load up the box more often that they would like and then Sam Bradford can go to work.
