One player in particular has catapulted to the top 12 in the Week 13 TE Fantasy Football Rankings this week. And all thanks to a former Dolphin who was so bad in Miami, former front office honcho Bill Parcells said drafting him one of his worst mistakes ever. Ouch.
Marcedes Lewis, We Welcome You Back With Open Arms
It seems like ages ago that Lewis was one of the top fantasy football tight ends back in 2010. Sigh...what a year to be a Lewis owner. In that year Lewis broke every single career receiving record, outside of average yards per catch, and blessed us with his first double-digit touchdown season with 10 scores. Many had considered it a one-year fluke, me included. But at the time, it didn't bother me as he gave me some quality wins back then. Then the Jaguars drafted Blaine Gabbert, dumped David Garrard, and that 2010 season was a distant memory. That still didn't stop owners from drafting Lewis rather high in 2011. Of course I avoided him, being the smart owner that I am (gag), and I'm glad I did. His touchdown value didn't sink like a stone, it plummeted all the way to China. Nothing like drafting a player as your TE1 only to see him go scoreless all year. 2012 didn't start off so hot either. Actually, I guess it did since he did catch 5 passes for 51 yards and a score against the Vikings in Week 1. But ever since that game, Lewis couldn't live up to the hype from that magical 2010 season. This probably won't surprise you, but I blame Gabbert more than Lewis. Gabbert isn't an NFL starter. Hopefully the Jaguars realize this and don't give him another chance in 2013. With Chad Henne, the stars are aligned for a late push from Lewis in your fantasy playoffs. Henne even confirmed that he made it a priority to get Lewis involved once he took over. In the last 2 games, he's racked up 7 catches, 96 yards and 2 scores. It's enough to make me forget his horrid beginning. Maybe I'm a tad overconfident about Lewis' ranking this week against Buffalo, but you can't be in this business without going out on a limb every now and then.
Also, make sure to check the rankings again between now and Friday to see if anyone has moved up or down due to latest news and injuries.
