Week 13 Waiver Wire Quarterbacks, Mike Glennon Should Be Owned

November 25, 2013 by Greg Brosh

My Week 13 Waiver Wire Quarterbacks article is barely giving a heartbeat as your playoffs either begin this week or next week. I highly doubt any of these guys will give you much value But if you are barely getting anything out of your QB1 due to injuries, maybe one of these guys can help you.

Ryan Fitzpatrick - Titans (Owned Percentage – ESPN 3.8%/Yahoo 9%)

In the last 3 weeks, Fitz has managed to toss up 5 touchdown passes, including 2 double-digit games. His 320 passing yards Sunday was his first 300 yard game of the season, but keep in mind it was against the Raiders. Fitzpatrick is what he's always been: a low-end QB2 who should only be used in extreme emergencies. It's highly doubtful he's worth anything more unless you are in very deep leagues.

Josh McCown - Bears (Owned Percentage – ESPN 6.6%/Yahoo 19%)

Could it be that McCown is simply a better fit in Marc Trestman's offense than Jay Cutler? Of course not, but he has been playing much better than anticipated as Cutler continues to rehab from an ankle injury. McCown's 352 passing yard/2 touchdown game (1 pick) came in a lot of garbage time as the Rams got the surprising win, big, 42-21. Not to mention McCown made a costly fumble. McCown is still just a mid-range QB2 with a decent matchup against the Vikings in Week 13. He could be a sleeper option.

Mike Glennon - Buccaneers (Owned Percentage – ESPN 5.8%/Yahoo 21%)

I'm kind of surprised Glennon's numbers are as low as they are considering he's one of the better backups in fantasy football. He's thrown at least 1 touchdown in every game he's played in, and has also racked up 5 double-digit scores in that same span. He won't get you a ton of passing yardage (He's only averaging 223 passing yards a game), but he's still better than a lot of the guys still left on your wire. There have been times where the matchup was good enough to earn him QB1 status if you needed him. I'd pick him up. He can't be that much worse than your current QB2, unless you literally have 2 QB1's on your squad.
