Week 3 Waiver Wire Picks – Wide Receiver

September 21, 2015 by Brendan Cole

Despite the fact that fantasy tends to focus on the stud running back, the NFL is a receiver's league now. Even in the deepest leagues, there are still receivers available who can be difference makers on a week to week basis. Week 2 showcased some of these players and the waiver wire competition should be hot in the coming days. Here they are, in order of preference-week 3 waiver wire wide receivers.

Travis Benjamin  CLE

Travis Benjamin is a big play waiting to happen.
Travis Benjamin is a big play waiting to happen.

Benjamin is enjoying a couple of games reminiscent of what Martavis Bryant did last season. Granted this is a small sample size and may be a mirage, but why take the chance? Manziel and Benjamin appear to have great chemistry and one connection per game is enough to produce a viable fantasy output. For leagues that count return yards and/or touchdowns, he will be an even more valuable commodity. Things will be hit or miss, but when Benjamin hits he will hit big.

Waiver Wire Picks - Quarterback

Michael Crabtree OAK

If your league is fairly deep, Crabtree is already rostered. Anywhere that he is available, he is certainly worth picking up if you need help at wide receiver. Amari Cooper is obviously the number one target for the Oakland offense, but Crabtree is a solid possession receiver for his young quarterback. As the relationship develops between Carr and Crabtree, he should become a solid weekly play for fantasy owners.

Marvin Jones  CIN

I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but Jones is still very lightly owned in fantasy. He is still working his way back to form, but Jones is already being targeted a decent amount. While A.J. Green is on the field, Jones will almost never be facing the opponent's top defender. These factors spell success for fantasy owners. Although he is not the top option in Cincy's passing game, Jones has the trust of his quarterback and more often than not will get a number of looks.

Rishard Matthews  MIA

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill appears to be coming to rely on Matthews as one of his go-to targets in Miami. In week 1 Matthews scored a touchdown and he followed that up in week two with a 115 yard performance. There are a number of talented players on the Dolphins roster, but some of them have underperformed so far this season. If Matthews can continue to develop his rapport with his quarterback, he could be a major value for the remainder of the season. At worst he will be a solid matchup play or bye week fill in.

Stash and See - Dorial Green-Beckham  TEN

Raw but talented, Green-Beckham could become a monster.
Raw but talented, Green-Beckham could become a monster.

Green-Beckham scored his first NFL touchdown in week 2, but he only garnered two targets. As the season progresses and the talented physical specimen becomes more used to the pro game, his fortunes could improve. If I'm going to gamble, I always gamble on talent and Green-Beckham has plenty of that. If you have a bench spot available, you could do worse for a speculative add.
