On Wednesday, the Colorado Avalanche and Phoenix Coyotes made the biggest trade of the post-Olympics trade frenzy, and it comes with enormous fantasy implications.
The Avalanche have dealt Wojtek Wolski to the Coyotes for Peter Mueller and Kevin Porter. Wolski, 24, has 17 goals and 30 assists and is +15 in 61 games this season. Mueller, 21, has four goals and 13 assists in 54 games this season, and will be a restricted free agent after the season.
Wolski not only bolsters the Coyotes' offense, but will become the heir-apparent to Shane Doan in the desert. His fantasy value should go up with him moving to a more veteran roster.
For Mueller, who's seen his numbers drop-off each of the past three seasons, a move to the young Avalanche could be just what the doctor ordered. In a younger environment, and with the change in scenery, this move could be just what the doctor ordered for the talented young Mueller. Oh, and with him needing a new contract after this season, motivation should be high for Mueller.
