According to CSN Bay Area, there's a strong possibility that the Niners will target Josh Johnson if they decide to trade for a quarterback this offseason. Johnson played for new coach Jim Harbaugh during their days at the University of San Diego. Although Johnson's pro career hasn't anything to write home about, he did toss 42 touchdowns against only one pick as a senior. Of course, the Niners currently have 10 draft picks, and there's always a chance they address the position in late April. Source: RotoTimes
Was always intrigued by him, good athlete, strong arm and pretty accurate and poised. If the Niners plan to start completely over a QB he'd be worth a shot at least as a backup.
I still don't think the Bucs want to trade him. It's gonna take a pretty high draft pick to pry him away form Coach Rah. That would leave us with Rudy Carpenter as the back up.
The Buccaneers could always sign a vet to backup Freeman. I've been linking this from the start and I wouldn't be shocked if Johnson is the 49ers' opening day starter or at least on their roster. The 49ers have 21 draft choices in the next two years......I'm certain they can work out something with Tampa Bay.
