49ers Hire Greg Roman As Offensive Coordinator

Discussion in 'San Francisco 49ers' started by BigBlueBruiser, Jan 14, 2011.

  1. Former Stanford assistant Greg Roman has joined the 49ers as their offensive coordinator, according to a source. Roman served as Stanford’s associate head coach and was as responsible as anyone — including head coach Jim Harbaugh — for the Cardinal’s offensive success and creativity. Roman has extensive NFL experience, having been an assistant for Carolina, Houston and Baltimore. He was a finalist for the Stanford head coaching position that went to David Shaw.

So does Harbaugh begin calling the plays himself out of the gate?

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now. I really feel they have weapons on offense and are simply lacking the quarterback to direct that offense. Hopefully Roman can dig up a scheme that can give them enough of a passing game to keep that running game churning. It's all about what they end up doing under center. That will define Harbaugh and Roman.
