49ers To Seek Ex-Owner Eddie DeBartolo's Advice To Turn Around Franchise

Discussion in 'San Francisco 49ers' started by BigBlueBruiser, Dec 27, 2010.

  1. San Francisco team president and CEO Jed York is turning to his uncle, former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr., for advice on how to turn around the team. DeBartolo will serve as a consultant in the process of finding a general manager. Only after a GM is in place will a new coach be hired; there's no timetable. Jim Tomsula will coach the 49ers for all of a week, and his bosses have said they expect him to win. The promoted defensive line coach took charge of the downtrodden franchise Monday, a day after the 49ers fired Mike Singletary late Sunday following a 25-17 loss at St. Louis that eliminated San Francisco from playoff contention, and also fired were pass rush specialist coach Al Harris and inside linebackers coach Vantz Singletary, the former coach's nephew.

    wha??? :moe:

  6. I think he's referring to Mike Holmgren.....Jed York was asked about him during his presser today but he won't get into any specific names.

I think the fans would love to see Holmgren return where it all started for him with the 49ers.

My bad, I was actually thinking of Carmen Policy. We've had so many brain trusts its really hard to keep them straight. :icon_redface: I knew it was 2 guys from the 49ers who ran the new franchise into the ground for 4 or 5 years.

In my defense: They're the same guy. One just owned the team and can afford to dye his hair black.

Eddie D. Now he knew how to play the game. This tailspin they have been in would simply not be allowed under his watch. I hope whomever is getting the rub here know what to do with it. This team is at an all time low right now. No coach, QB situation a complete mess, owners who don't seem to care until now......

Either way it's just as bad and Eddie D would have never stood for that.

  11. If Eddie D were still in charge.....Steve Marcucci would still be at the helm, Jeff Garica and Terrell Owens wouldn't had left when they did after the '03 season.

Well I dunno about Mooch still being there but they would have been more competitive.

Yeah no doubt... although regardless of team ownership, TWO was/is a cancer and never really got along with Mooch or Garcthia. He probably would have gotten axed or traded when he did in 2004 or soon thereafter

Once Steve Young left there was no one who actually stood up to T.O. and put him in his place. Too much hand holding by Mooch and not enough push back from Garcia to stamp himself as the man under center. You can never replace greatness.

  15. It's telling that once Young was gone.....Terrell Owens became T.O.

I know I wouldn't be dropping my pants and mooning anyone. I have been calling for Jed to call Uncle Eddie for quite a while now and get feedback considering he ran a team he truly loved all the way to numerous Super Bowls. I know I wouldn't have sat Westbrook until Gore got hurt or not put 2 TE's in the game at the same time, just crap like that Singletary just didn't do or make sure that his coordinators made good use of ALL personnel at their disposal.
